11 Plus Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning Practice; free practice paper

I remember experiencing the intense preparation for the entrance exams to, what used to be called, Bedford High School (now Bedford Girls School). The verbal reasoning part of the exam was particularly challenging. Preparation and practice was key, and I still remember finding out that I had been offered a place at the school – I was so excited and happy. Although 11 plus preparation can be very challenging, with the right tips you can succeed and do really well in these exams.
With the 11 plus coming up for local private schools in January, and September for grammar and other selective schools. It is important to practice hard. Some schools do not prepare students to sit these exams; particularly not the verbal and non verbal reasoning element which is often an entirely new concept to students. It is important to get the practice in elsewhere, learning what to expect in the exam, and building up the skills and knowledge needed to do well.
A common component of the 11 plus is non-verbal and verbal reasoning. Different schools use different providers meaning verbal and non-verbal questions might range from puzzle solving and shapes to more English based questions, such as close passage. Regardless of the type of paper your child is sitting it is essential to familiarise yourself with the types of questions prior to exam to maximise chances of success.
Here at Marvellous Minds Tuition our 11 plus teaching is tailored to suit schools in the local area. In Bedford many children will apply for Buckinghamshire Grammar schools, who use the GL papers, whereas some children will apply for independent schools which use their own.

However there a number of tips we have found help students do well.
1. Practice, practice, practice! It is important to practice as many papers as possible.
2. Once they are familiar with the test types then they can do it in exam conditions.
3. Any games such as puzzles or sudoku (problem solving) will help with non-verbal and verbal reasoning papers.
4. A wide range of reading will help with CEM papers, as these are more literacy based.
